Position Title:  Youth Development Officer/ Youth Worker

Nature & Scope: A Youth Development Officer with Crosscare is a front-line youth worker whose main focus is delivering positive youth work programmes with young people, especially those most in need. The role is grounded in Crosscare’s youth work approach, which emphasises supporting young people’s personal, social and community development through voluntary, engaging activities and interventions.

Location: Sandyford area (locations may change)

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week including 3 late nights and occasional weekends

Contract:  Full time/Permanent

Salary:  €38,769 - €57,011 Depending on Experience

Reporting to:  Service manager

 

General Responsibilities:

  • To implement programmes in line within funding requirements

  • To spend 70% of working hours in direct contact with young people, with an emphasis on disadvantaged young people

  • To ensure organised programmes fit within the Youth Work Process and Models of Youth Work

  • To work a minimum of three nights per week and weekends as requested

  • To organise residentials as part of the Youth Work Programme

  • To attend and participate at staff meetings within the service.

  • To represent the Youth Service, when requested, at various committees

  • To submit all paperwork within specified time period

  • To apply for relevant grants related to the ongoing work, in consultation with your Line Manager

  • To work within the ethos and values of Crosscare

  • To implement the Crosscare Strategy

  • To attend any relevant training to the work

  • To manage challenging behaviours and situations

  • To work in collaboration with the existing team.

  • To carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager

  • Develop & maintain positive community relationships

Essential Requirements:

  • Third Level Qualification in Youth Work ( or similar) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young people at risk.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Motivation and ability to work on own initiative

  • A passion for youth work and social justice

  • Excellent organisational, time management and record keeping skills

  • IT Skills (MS Office essential, experience in database use desirable)

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Creativity & Innovation

  • Flexibility and adaptability

  • Facilitation and group work skills 

  • Empathy and understanding 

  • Negotiation skills.
