Position Title: Family Support Worker

Location: Crosscare Dun Laoghaire Youth Service

Work Schedule: Full time: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: 1 Full Time Permanent Post

Salary: €38,769 - €57,011 DOE

Reporting to: Youth Service Manager/Team Leader

The Role: General Responsibilities:

  • Together, as a team, with the youth justice workers, identify and support families of young people who have offended or are at risk of offending, with the aim to reduce the offending behaviour.

  • Work closely with the YJWs and using the information identified in the young person’s YLS/CMI 2.0 to identify the needs and strengths of the family.

  • Assess and respond to the needs of families, particularly parents and care givers of young people who are participants of the YDP or have been referred to the YDP.

  • Engage, build and maintaining strong, positive relationships with the target group.

  • Use evidence based/informed approaches, provide group work, individual work, skills-based programmes, and recreational activities as appropriate for the parents and/or caregivers.

  • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, particularly An Garda Síochána and other services engaged with families and young people in the catchment area.

  • Advocate for parents, care givers and families and attending meetings relevant to their needs, preparing reports as necessary.

  • Operate in accordance with the YDP Operational Requirements.

  • Complete accurately and on time administrative requirements of the project including compiling plans and reports as required.

  • Attending YDP advisory committee and referral assessment committee meetings as required and preparation of reports for same.

  • Networking, co-operating, and enlisting the support of other agencies/organisations and community groups to enhance the development opportunities for project participants.

  • Attend and complete all training provided by Crosscare and Irish Youth Justice, to support the work within the project.

Essential Requirements:

  • Be in possession of a third level qualification in youth work and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young people at risk. 

  • Experience of dealing with Child Safeguarding Issues.

  • Full Driving licence desirable.
